This is a wildlife piece I did in a series of paintings that was inspired by a night safari in Africa. I wanted to experiment with how a painting could be rendered using all black paint. I experimented with impasto (thick painting) techniques. The luminosity (shine, shadows, reflection, etc.) of the black paint illuminates the areas in the painting. With the exception of the eyes, (in which I used strontium aluminate) it is produced using only oil paint.

This large piece was produced as a conference room center piece for a Corporation in Orange County, CA. It is a painting of Midtown New York painted in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
