Broadcasting Studio (Phase 1)
JW is a religious organization where its members are provided Bible based information for growth. It's directors requested a studio that represented a global organization, a corporate headquarters, and gave a sense of professionalism. It was to be the Corporate Headquarters Broadcasting Studio of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York.

The preliminary set design needed to be completed in 2 days for presentation, which included all measurements and digital models to scale. The entire project, from concept to first recording, needed to be completed in 2 months.
To expedite the design process I employed the use of conceptual design. By having a strong central idea design solutions would grow like a well watered seed, not only into a design that is well rooted, but into one that is aesthetically and functionally sound.
Jehovah’s Witnesses are known to be fervent students of the bible. The bible symbolically likens its message to water.

The visual design concept for the studio is a waterfall. Like water, the information provided by its broadcasts would be a source of refreshment for its viewers. This element, as well as the Corporate elements and the news studio elements, I combined to create the overall design. The preliminary set design needed to be completed in 2 days, which included all measurements and digital models to scale.

I created a detailed digital model to scale to expedite the production of the construction drawings. Notice how the waterfall concept and shape from the photo reference above is reflected in the model.

The model was then given to a draftsman for the production of construction drawings. Notice in the plan how everything in the studio radiates from a central point, like the ripple effect created by a single drop of water. This is another example of conceptual designing.

Much attention was given to the color and textures used in the studio as a response to the design criteria so as to reflect a professional, world headquarters while at the same time portraying an inviting calming tone.
I pulled ideas of textures and finishes from corporate lobbies, and established news studios, as well as from the waterfall concept to achieve the final look. It took about a week to finalize the decision for all the finishes in the studio after the model was created.
The studio desk was designed to match the overall aesthetic of the studio. It has a interchangeable desktop that can either be convex or concave to accommodate one to two individuals. It also has another set of side nodes for the desk to provide different LED lighting schemes for the set.

An additional set of side nodes for different lighting schemes is displayed here.

The lighting configuration employs the use of LED lights that can be changed using a light mixer to reflect the mood of the broadcast. Here a blue color scheme is employed in the studio.

All the details in the design criteria, the design concept, and its finishes came together to produce the studio as it appears today. Monthly programs are regularly broadcast that discuss a variety of subjects pertinent to the organization. The broadcast program is accessed through its website by millions around the world.
